One of my favorite crystals to work with to create financial abundance is the crystal citrine. It’s easy to find in your local crystal shops or online. It’s important to buy from a reputable dealer when ordering crystals to not buy glass. You want to work with the real deal to get the vibrational frequency of the particular stone you desire to harness the energy. Citrine has a long history of being called the merchant’s stone and believed to bring one good luck and attract prosperity.

The History of Citrine

The name of the stone can be traced back to the fourteenth century with the French, citrin is the color lemon. The history goes further back with its prosperity, abundance and good luck properties being recognized or that it had special properties since the Egyptians used citrine for their talisman.

The Roman priests used the citrine stones for their rings, while the Greeks carved venerated images into them. It does seem like the citrine crystal does have a long history of being recognized as having value.

What is Citrine For?

Crystals represent the earth’s energy, it’s an embodiment of the earth that we can use to grow material wealth and prosperity. Citrine is a powerful crystal to use as a tool to attract more abundance into your life or to funnel that energy to grow your business. The so-called merchant’s stone is often kept inside the cash registers drawer or in their money bag to attract more money. Simply working with the color gold can bring you more energy, power, channeling the divine wisdom of archangel Uriel, divine healing with the golden elixir. Visualizing bags filled with gold or putting such images on your bagua or vision board helps to manifest wealth.

How To Use Citrine

Meditate with it

Since citrine resonates with the solar plexus it’s a good idea to meditate with it.

You hold a geode or a large size citrine on your solar plexus while you’re breathing deeply in to absorb the properties of the crystal and meditating on the color yellow or gold.

This will help with healing, and building the strength of your solar plexus, so it can enhance your confidence and will power to go after the wealth you desire. It also promotes positivity and optimism.

Another great tip is to

Imagine a huge sun in your belly while you are doing the breathing exercise

This can really amp up the energy in your solar plexus.  Imagine the brilliance of the sun and you can feel yourself filling up with the energy getting bolder and stronger.

Yellow and the Solar Plexus

Yellow or gold is also another color to use while working to manifest things in your life. The color yellow or gold is associated with the solar plexus and this is the center of your power. The energy from this area can be used to bring a great deal of powerful energy into your manifestations. It’s important to have strong boundaries so your powerful energy is kept for yourself and not being robbed by another, leaving you in a weakened state. Take that strong power and direct it into uplifting your desires and giving energy to your creations. The sun is the source of energy on our planet. Without the sun we would cease to exist. We know that when we harness the energy from the sun we can gain so much power by capturing it and using it in various ways to support human beings. The sun in metaphysical terms lives in our solar plexus, it’s our source of energy. It makes sense that the color yellow or gold would be another vibrational match for manifesting.

Citrine to Attract Abundance

It’s a good idea to keep a citrine cluster near your front door.

Before leaving the house, stop and visualize yourself absorbing some of its money-drawing energy in the form of golden light.  Visualize yourself as happy, prosperous and generous with others.

Citrine inspires generosity with others. When we envision sharing the wealth it acts like an even stronger magnet. You need to be sincere in your heart with the desire to help others as well as fulfilling your needs.

Ramp up your Abundance with the Following Ritual

If you want to increase your income then you could gather a bring me money candle or use a green candle that you carve your desires into.  Include:

  • a green mojo bag or money bag
  • eight whole fresh basil leaves
  • a citrine stone

Set the candle on a fireproof surface with the citrine stone in front of it, and the basil leaves all around it forming a circle around the stone. Light the candle and best to let it burn completely. Hold your intention and hands over the crystal, the leaves and candle. As you strongly hold the intention you visualize your bank account growing.

You see you and your finances are thriving. Keep this going until you feel the energy build to a point that the stone is filled and can’t hold anymore energy. After that if you can sit quietly and meditate or bless the candle as it slowly burns out to complete the intention. When all is complete you put the basil leaves and citrine in your green mojo money bag.

Citrine in your Wallet Primes the Pump of Prosperity

You can place a small piece of citrine in your wallet, this is a wonderful way to harness the stone’s energy to connect with abundance.  Citrine not only helps in acquiring wealth but retaining wealth. It’s important not to ignore the impulse to be generous when you feel it, that is citrine working with you. It is not counterproductive to share your wealth because sharing your abundance actually primes the pump of prosperity.  If you behave miserably it shows a lack of faith and the flow of abundance trickles like it’s trying to come through a cramped hose.  Yes be generous but not foolish, follow your gut or rather intuition with whom you are sharing your fortune with. It’s also not wise to be seen as a mark and give in to an unequal energy exchange relationship or someone that is only taking for the sake of taking. You want to respect money, for it is energy.

Wear Citrine

A fun way to work with this crystal is to wear it as jewelry.  When you wear it you are activating it, it’s important to set the intention of what you want to create with the crystal. Everytime you wear the crystal it will be a reminder of what you desire to manifest.  I love to wear my citrine bracelets and I used to have gorgeous earrings. I highly recommend wearing your citrine because it’s a very positive and uplifting energy.

Citrine for Business

A strong way to manifest your desire for abundance and prosperity is to…

Place a citrine stone in the wealth corner of your home or office. You will find the wealth corner of your home or office in the southeast corner.

A clear quartz works wonderfully when placed with a citrine to amplify the strength.

If you are building your business or empire you can create an abundance altar to manifest your empire! This is a flexible project so add what feels good to you like your favorite flowers. A good one to use is the orchid. Orchid plants have a long history of being associated with luxury, abundance and good fortune. They also represent abundance and can enhance the growth of your business or career. There are several other plants that I work with to attract success and abundance into my business. I will be discussing that in a future article.

Bring in Candles

While holding the space of protection and positive energy you want to add a white candles, vanilla would be even better to bring in the energy of the angels.

It’s a good idea to add a green candle for working with the energy of abundance and for good measure a golden candle for wealth, light, positive energy and divine protection. It’s a great idea to inscribe with symbols or affirmations and visualize the desired outcome.

Amp up the Energy

Other things to include are your favorite statues such as Jesus, Mary, Buddha, Kuan Yin or whatever your favorite might be.

Next add your citrine and clear quartz crystals with your candles, flowers and a dedicated pretty altar cloth to add for respectful loving energy.

You may desire to add a crystal tree, that would further amp up the energy for the desired outcome.

You want to burn your favorite incense while you’re doing your daily prayers, affirmations or meditations.

Scents to use for attracting abundance are cinnamon, clove, patchouli, jasmine, pine and vanilla to name a few.

It’s important to spend five minutes in the morning meditating or focusing on your intentions and five minutes at night. By giving your attention, focus and time for your manifestations you are actually investing in yourself. Remember that right before you go to bed if you put your attention on your desired manifestations it will work with you in your subconscious mind all night to bring about the desired outcome. Hence actively creating the life that you desire to live and the career or business that you desire to prosper. This is an important step in learning how to play the game and enjoying your life of manifestations.

Citrine Crystal Meaning and Symbolism

Citrine crystal meaning centers on abundance, confidence, optimism, and personal power. Often called the “merchant’s stone,” it’s associated in crystal traditions with prosperity and good fortune—especially in business. Its golden color also makes it a popular choice for practices focused on the solar plexus and the confidence to pursue what matters to you.

Daniela opens her original article by describing citrine as one of her favorite crystals to work with when focusing on financial abundance. She also shares her enjoyment of wearing citrine bracelets and recalls a pair of citrine earrings she loved. For her, working with this crystal is a personal spiritual practice, woven into meditation, intention-setting, and everyday life.

A practical way to approach citrine: let it serve as a reminder of what you’re working toward. Holding it during meditation, wearing it as jewelry, or keeping it near your workspace can become a cue to pause, revisit your intentions, and choose your next step.

In the original article, abundance is closely connected with generosity. The intention isn’t simply to accumulate more, but to imagine yourself feeling secure enough to share while keeping healthy boundaries. You can be generous without giving beyond your means or accepting relationships where you’re always the one giving.

If you’re choosing a piece of citrine, Daniela recommends buying from a reputable seller. Ask what the stone is and whether it has been treated, rather than relying on its color or a promising product description alone.

The meanings and practices explored here belong to spiritual and crystal traditions. Citrine should not be treated as a guarantee of income, business success, or healing. Use these practices alongside practical action and appropriate professional advice.

The History of Citrine

Citrine takes its name from the French word citron, meaning lemon—a fitting connection for its yellow and golden shades. It belongs to the quartz family, whose stones have been used in jewelry and decorative objects for thousands of years.

That broader quartz history needs a little care. Ancient Greek carvings in rock crystal and the purple amethyst rings worn by Roman religious leaders are sometimes retold as stories specifically about citrine. They show how people valued different forms of quartz, but they don’t establish that every stone involved was citrine.

Citrine has been reported in Roman jewelry and was particularly popular in colorful Scottish jewelry during the Victorian era. Its resemblance to topaz also caused confusion before modern gemology made the distinction clearer.

Buying citrine today: natural citrine is rare, and much of the citrine sold commercially is heat-treated amethyst. A treated quartz stone isn’t the same as a glass imitation, but the seller should clearly explain what you’re buying.

Alongside its history as a gemstone, citrine has a place in contemporary crystal practices as a symbol of abundance, optimism, and personal confidence. You can appreciate those spiritual associations while keeping them separate from the stone’s documented history.

Meditating with Citrine and the Solar Plexus

In contemporary chakra practices, citrine is associated with the solar plexus: the symbolic energy center around the upper abdomen, linked with confidence, willpower, and personal direction. Yellow and gold are commonly used to represent this center, making citrine a natural visual companion for the practice.

Daniela’s original meditation combines the crystal with steady breathing and an image of golden sunlight. The intention is to focus on your inner strength and the confidence to pursue your goals. You can approach this as a spiritual visualization without needing to feel anything unusual.

A quiet moment with citrine can give you space to reflect on your intentions.

A Simple Citrine Meditation

  1. Get comfortable. Sit with your body supported, or lie down if you prefer. Hold a small, smooth piece of citrine in your hands. If it feels comfortable, you can rest it gently over your upper abdomen; keep heavy clusters and sharp points beside you instead.
  2. Let your breathing settle. Breathe slowly and comfortably, without forcing deep breaths or holding your breath. Give yourself a little time to arrive.
  3. Picture yellow or golden light. Imagine a gentle warmth around your upper abdomen. Let the color represent confidence, optimism, and your ability to make choices.
  4. Bring one intention to mind. Choose something specific, such as speaking clearly about your work, setting a fair price, or taking the next step on a project.
  5. Finish with an action. Before you put the crystal down, decide on one manageable thing you can do to support that intention.

Imagine a Sun in Your Belly

One of Daniela’s suggestions is to imagine a brilliant sun in your belly while you breathe. Picture its golden light becoming brighter and filling the space with warmth. Let that image stand for feeling more confident, steady, and ready to act.

You don’t need to create a vivid mental picture. A simple thought of sunlight or warmth is enough to follow the exercise. Keep it gentle, and stop if it feels uncomfortable.

Confidence Includes Healthy Boundaries

Daniela also connects the solar plexus with protecting your personal energy. In everyday terms, that can mean noticing where your time, attention, and effort are going—and deciding what you can realistically give.

You might use this quiet time to reflect on a boundary you need: declining an extra commitment, asking for fair payment, or making room for your own priorities. Let the practice support a clear decision you can carry into the rest of your day.

Everyday Ways to Work with Citrine

You don’t need an elaborate ritual to include citrine in your day. Daniela’s suggestions range from keeping a piece near your front door to wearing a favorite bracelet. Choose a place where you’ll notice it and remember the intention you’ve set.

Keep Citrine Near Your Front Door

In her original article, Daniela suggests placing a citrine cluster near the entrance to your home. Before leaving, pause for a moment and imagine golden light surrounding you. Picture yourself approaching the day feeling happy, prosperous, and generous.

This visualization draws on citrine’s spiritual association with abundance. You might follow it by choosing how you want to show up that day: prepared for a meeting, open to a useful conversation, or ready to complete something you’ve been putting off.

Carry a Small Piece in Your Wallet

Keeping citrine in a wallet or money bag is a traditional way of working with the “merchant’s stone.” Daniela connects this practice with both receiving abundance and looking after what you already have.

Choose a small, smooth stone that won’t damage your wallet or its contents. Let it remind you to pay attention to your money: check a balance, follow up on an invoice, or consider whether a purchase supports your priorities. The stone’s symbolism can accompany those habits without promising a financial result.

Wear Citrine as Jewelry

Wearing citrine is one of Daniela’s favorite ways to work with it. She describes enjoying her citrine bracelets and remembers a pair of earrings she loved.

Before putting on your bracelet, pendant, ring, or earrings, take a moment to name your intention. You could choose confidence for a difficult conversation, persistence with a project, or greater awareness of opportunities around you. Seeing the stone throughout the day can bring that intention back to mind.

Generosity with Discernment

A recurring idea in Daniela’s article is that abundance includes a willingness to share. She describes generosity as “priming the pump of prosperity”—a spiritual image for keeping giving and receiving in motion.

She also emphasizes boundaries. Give within your means, use your judgment, and notice when an exchange becomes one-sided. Giving should be a free choice, without pressure or the expectation that it will guarantee money in return.

A Citrine Abundance Ritual

Daniela’s original article includes a candle ritual using citrine, basil, and a green money bag. It brings together objects associated with prosperity and gives you time to focus on what financial security would mean in your life.

Approach it as a symbolic spiritual practice. You can hold an intention for greater abundance while recognizing that a ritual cannot guarantee income or replace practical financial decisions.

What You’ll Need

  • A green candle, or a candle sold for prosperity rituals
  • A stable, heat-resistant candleholder
  • A small green pouch or money bag
  • Eight whole basil leaves
  • A small citrine stone

How to Follow the Ritual

  1. Choose a clear intention. Consider what you’re working toward: meeting your expenses, finding suitable clients, building savings, or receiving fair payment for your work. If you wish, gently inscribe a short word or symbol into the unlit candle.
  2. Arrange your space. Place the candle in its holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Arrange the basil leaves in a circle around the citrine on a separate dish, well away from the candle and any possible flame.
  3. Light the candle, if using one. Settle into a comfortable position and bring your attention to the crystal and leaves. Keep your hands clear of the flame. A flameless candle is also an option.
  4. Visualize your intention. Daniela suggests picturing your finances thriving and your bank balance growing. You might imagine the relief of paying a bill, the satisfaction of completing paid work, or having enough to share comfortably.
  5. Give the moment your attention. In the original practice, Daniela describes imagining the stone becoming filled with the energy of your intention. Stay with that symbolism for as long as it feels comfortable, without trying to force a sensation or special experience.
  6. Close the practice. Sit quietly, offer a prayer or blessing if that suits your beliefs, and extinguish the candle safely. You don’t need to let it burn all the way down to complete the ritual.
  7. Prepare your pouch. Once everything is cool, place the citrine and fully dried basil leaves in the green bag. If you used fresh leaves, let them dry completely first to avoid trapping moisture inside.

Candle care: keep flames away from herbs, fabric, pouches, and other combustible objects. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and follow the candle manufacturer’s instructions.

Keep the pouch somewhere meaningful, then choose one action that supports your intention. That could be sending an invoice, reviewing your prices, applying for work, or setting aside an affordable amount in savings.

Creating a Citrine Abundance Altar

An abundance altar gives your intentions a physical place in your home or workspace. Daniela suggests bringing together citrine, candles, flowers, and meaningful spiritual objects to create a setting for prayer, meditation, or reflection on your business and personal goals.

It can be a small shelf, a corner of a console, or a dedicated tabletop. Start with what you already own and choose objects that have meaning for you. There’s no need to buy an elaborate collection.

A simple arrangement of crystals, flowers, and candles can become a focus for your intentions.

Choose a Place for Your Citrine

Daniela recommends placing citrine in the southeast corner of your home or office, following a compass-based wealth-corner association. If you include that symbolism in your practice, you can use it to choose your location. Otherwise, select a quiet, practical spot where you’ll notice the arrangement regularly.

She also suggests pairing citrine with clear quartz, which is traditionally described in crystal practices as an amplifier of intention. Treat that as spiritual symbolism rather than a measurable effect on your finances or business.

Add Objects That Support Your Intention

  • Flowers or a plant: Daniela recommends orchids for their associations with luxury, abundance, and good fortune. You can also choose a favorite flower or a plant you enjoy caring for.
  • A dedicated altar cloth: a simple cloth can help define the space and give the arrangement a sense of care. Keep fabric clear of any candle flame.
  • Meaningful spiritual figures: the original article suggests Jesus, Mary, Buddha, or Kuan Yin. Choose only figures or symbols that fit your own beliefs and that you wish to include respectfully.
  • A crystal tree: Daniela includes this as an optional addition to the abundance theme. It can serve as a visual symbol of growth and the goals you’re nurturing.

Bring in Candle Color and Scent

In Daniela’s practice, white candles represent protection and positive energy, green candles symbolize abundance, and gold candles represent wealth, light, and divine protection. She also suggests vanilla as a scent she associates with angelic presence.

If you like, inscribe an unlit candle with a short affirmation or a symbol connected with your intention. You can use the colors without lighting the candles, too—the arrangement can still hold personal meaning.

For incense or fragrance, Daniela lists cinnamon, clove, patchouli, jasmine, pine, and vanilla as scents she connects with abundance. Fragrance is optional; a clear, comfortable space is enough for the practice.

Keep the arrangement practical: place candles in suitable holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flowers, cloth, and other objects. Never leave flames unattended. If you use incense, ventilate the room and consider others who share the space, including pets. Flameless candles and a fragrance-free altar are equally workable choices.

Making Time for Your Daily Practice

Daniela recommends spending five minutes in the morning and five minutes at night focusing on your intentions. You might sit beside your altar, hold your citrine, say a prayer, or quietly reflect. Choose a routine that fits your day and feels comfortable to return to.

Five Minutes in the Morning

Take a few comfortable breaths and bring one intention to mind. Picture yourself approaching the day with confidence and generosity, then choose a practical step you can take.

Keep it specific: finish a proposal, contact a potential client, organize your finances, or make time for work that matters to you.

Five Minutes in the Evening

Return to your intention without judging the whole day by what you earned or accomplished. Notice what you followed through on, what you learned, and what still needs attention.

You can close with a prayer, a moment of gratitude, or a brief note about tomorrow’s next step.

In her original article, Daniela describes bedtime visualization as a way of carrying your intentions into the subconscious overnight. That is part of her spiritual perspective, rather than a promise that focusing on an outcome before sleep will make it happen.

Let your citrine be a reminder to return to the qualities you want to practice: confidence in your work, care with your resources, generosity within your means, and willingness to act on your goals. The routine can stay simple and personal.
